Former APD officer booked on murder charge | News
The former Albuquerque police officer accused of killing his wife and making it look like a suicide turned himself in to be booked Friday. He posted bond and was back home Friday afternoon.
Chavez was indicted earlier this month in the death of his wife Tera.
She was found dead in their Los Lunas home with a gunshot wound to the head back in 2007. Levi's police-issued gun was at her side.
Chavez appeared court and pleaded not guilty to the murder charge. He posted $10,000 bond and was released from custody.
His defense attorney says they will prove in court that the case is a suicide and not murder.
His attorney is trying to keep information about the Chavez family from the jury. His father, at one time a state investigator, was fired for misappropriating funds.
His two uncles were also law enforcement officers, one fired for stealing a car and the other had his duty weapon used in two suicide deaths.
